Follow Check for Instagram (unofficial Chrome extension)

This extension is an unofficial, independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram, Meta Platforms, Inc., or any of their affiliates.

Follow Check for Instagram (“the extension”, “we”) compares the followers and following lists of the Instagram account you are already logged into in Chrome. It does not ask for your Instagram password and does not operate a backend server of its own.

What information the extension accesses

Only after you click Scan my lists (or an equivalent scan action), the extension may read, from your current logged-in Instagram tab:

Your Instagram username and profile identifiers for the signed-in account, and the follower/following totals shown on your profile (used only to show scan progress)
Usernames, display names, verification flags, and profile image URLs of accounts in your followers and following lists
Session cookies already stored by instagram.com in your browser (including a CSRF token) so requests can be made as you, from that tab

The extension also fetches profile images from Instagram’s image CDNs (*.cdninstagram.com and *.fbcdn.net) so avatars can be shown in the panel.

How the information is used

Data is used only to provide the extension’s single purpose:

Compare followers and following
Show mutuals, accounts that don’t follow you back, and accounts you don’t follow back
Let you search/filter those lists and export a CSV on your computer
Let you unfollow or follow back from the same logged-in Instagram session, when you click those buttons

Where data is stored

Scan results are kept only in the memory of the Instagram tab where you ran the scan. They are not written to Chrome storage, not uploaded to any developer-operated server, and they are discarded when you refresh or close that tab. If you click Export CSV, your browser saves that file to your computer, and you control it from then on.

We do not use analytics, advertising, crash reporters, or third-party trackers in this extension.

Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. Network requests made by the extension go only to Instagram and its CDNs as needed for the features above, using your existing browser session.

Retention and deletion

The extension does not retain your data. Results disappear when you refresh or close the Instagram tab, and the developer never receives a copy, so there is nothing for us to delete. Uninstalling removes the extension completely.

Permissions

https://www.instagram.com/* — run the in-page panel and use your logged-in session
https://*.cdninstagram.com/* and https://*.fbcdn.net/* — load profile photos shown in the results

The extension requests no other permissions.

Limited Use

The use of information received from this extension’s access to your Instagram session will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide or improve the disclosed single purpose: comparing your Instagram followers and following in the browser.

Children

The extension is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the “Effective date” above. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
